Zuhaila Arendsz-Marchena

Practice Experience

Zuhaila Arendsz-Marchena is a general practitioner but mainly focuses on corporate matters. Zuhaila’s practice focuses on corporate matters, which includes international tender procedures, contract law, employment law, and administrative law.

As part of the corporate practice she has broad experience providing legal assistance to foreign investors including fortune 500 companies and companies registered on various stock markets. She also works on business start-ups involving both domestic and international investors. Zuhaila advises and assists clients in the various tendering procedures for the newly in Aruba introduced public private partnership (‘PPP’) infrastructure projects and other infrastructure projects. Zuhaila successfully assisted her clients from the commencement of the PPP projects tender procedures until the project was awarded to her clients. Thereafter, she continues assisting her clients to reach financial close and on operational matters. In this respect she maintains good contacts with local authorities and institutions.

Zuhaila has also been involved in corporate takeovers including the auction of a hotel property in Aruba and the purchase and takeover of a timeshare resort. She also advises clients regularly on construction of luxury apartment complexes, commercial buildings and malls and the financing thereof. In addition Zuhaila also assists many (corporate) clients with labor matters including negotiation of labor agreements and litigation of labor disputes.

The Court has appointed Zuhaila as bankruptcy trustee (curator) in numerous bankruptcies including that of a locally established airline.

Zuhaila is also known for her ample experience in debt collection. She assists local and foreign companies by formulating collection claims, placing embargos and if necessary obtaining court orders for payment of debts.

Before joining AMDC Law, Zuhaila was an attorney at law at VanEps Kunneman VanDoorne, working at the Aruba office of that firm.

Example experience includes:

  • Successfully assisting insurance companies in litigation.
  • Counseling various clients on employment agreements and other labor questions, plus litigation on behalf of corporate clients relating to immediate dismissal and termination proceedings.
  • Advising clients on the incorporation of businesses in Aruba.

Bars and Courts

Zuhaila is admitted to the bar and licensed to practice law in Aruba, CuraƧao, Sint Maarten, Bonaire, Sint Eustatius and Saba.

Education

Zuhaila graduated and obtained her law degree at the University of Aruba.
